The knockdown texture of concrete coating is achieved by applying an acrylic concrete coating. It is very comparable to the knockdown spray finish on walls and ceilings, commonly known as stucco. For concrete flooring, it is sprayed directly on the cement to create distinctive, non-uniform spattered shapes. It involves a cementitious material that is dispensed by a hopper gun, applied with a spatter brush, or troweled and textured with rollers. When the textured material is only partially dried, it is “knocked down” with a trowel to level the high points. Doing this produces a more uniform, smoother surface that is comfortable to walk on while also providing resistance to slip. Using the knockdown method to apply an overlay adds a pleasant visual appeal to otherwise old and dull concrete by adding vibrance, color, and texture.
